Paper Toy by Shin Tanaka, Giant Robot & Scion

Japanese paper toy creator and artist, Shin Tanaka, has teamed up with LA-based, Asian-American pop culture magazine; Giant Robot, and with Japanese car manufacturer, Scion, in a collaborative effort to provide cut-out templates of Shin’s elaborate paper toys, in various issues of Giant Robot magazine…

Shin Tanaka, is best known for his paper toy creations, as well as his custom sneakers, in which he’s collaborated with big names such Nike, Adidas and Reebok. The first paper toy template was made available in Giant Robot’s 56th issue, a second toy was then made available in its 57th issue, and now, in Giant Robots 58th issue – which is set to be released February 9th – a 3rd template will be made available. Readers who cut out and build all three paper toys will be able to assemble them into one larger toy, dubbed the “4-in1 Robot.” This whole thing is commissioned by Scion, who’s notorious for their support of artists and of customization (which is reflected in the cars they make and sell).

If you’re like me, and are either amused or impressed by the littlest things, paper toys such as these will blow your mind and have you occupied for hours! – well, maybe I exaggerated a little, but they are pretty cool once completed. On a slightly different, yet similar topic, I recently completed three paper toys that I downloaded from Cubeecraft, and let me tell you, I just love them! If you’ve happen to have made your own paper toy, may it by from Cubeecraft or Shin Tanaka, feel free to post a link to the picture in the comments!
